Pre-Finishing:

35 degree post catalyst lacquer is standard.  Clear Lacquer is applied after the drawer box is assembled.

Wood Grades:

Standard:

Soft Maple

This is the most economical solid wood option.  There are many color and grain variations from drawer to drawer along with mineral staining and brown heartwood are allowed in this grade.  Machining quality is the same as any other grade.

​

Birch Plywood

This is the most economical option for making dovetail drawer boxes.  The color of the surface veneers is white and uniform.  Machining quality is the same as any other grade.  The edges of the box and dovetails will show the piles of the veneers.

Special Drawer Box Wood Grades:

Select Red Oak

Standard grade of oak.  Color is fairy uniform and well matched.  Moderate color variations are allowed between boxes and the smallest of pin knots are considered normal.

Select White Maple

Standard grade of maple.  Color is fairly uniform and well matched.  Moderate color variations are allowed between staves and a few of the smallest pin knots may be acceptable.

​

Natural Cherry

Most economical grade of cherry.  A variety of color and grain variations including sapwood and a modest amount of pitch marks or pin knots are allowed giving these drawers a lively character.

​

Select Cherry

Standard grade of cherry.  Color is fairly uniform and well matched.  Moderate color variations are allowed between staves.  A few small pitch marks or pin knots may be allowed and some sapwood and or mineral streaks may be found in machined areas.

​

Premium Hickory

Color varies from a light brown to nearly white and the sapwood and heartwood are matched and blended to minimize abrupt color changes among lamination lines.

Clear Alder

Light brown and fairly uniform in color with consistent grain structure and free of knots.

​

Select Walnut

Standard grade of walnut.  Color variation is fairly uniform on all four sides of the drawer.  A few pin knots and small knot clusters may be allowed if overall color is consistent.

​

Vertical Carbonized Bamboo

Shows thin strips and reveals linear grain pattern.  Through carbonization of sugars a brown/tan color is achieved.

​

Drawer Box Styles:

Standard Drawers

Standard drawers are meant to have a drawer front installed on the face therefore less attention to color consistency on the drawer face is deemed acceptable.

Pullout Drawers

Pullout drawers are not intended to have a drawer front installed on the face
